Dr. Jim Martincic is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from several fine music programs. University of Missouri-Kansas City, earning the Doctorate of Musical Arts , while on a Chancellor and Performance Scholarships. Illinois State University, Master of Music (also served as the Graduate Assistant in Jazz Studies & Music Technology). DePaul University (IL) earning the Bachelor of Music, while on a trumpet performance scholarship.

Dr. Martincic is an Adjunct Faculty member at College of DuPage and Joliet Jr. College where he teaches Music Appreciation and Introduction to American Music. he also taught Fundamentals of Music, Music History, Music Theory/Aural Skills/Keyboard Skills, World Music and other courses as needed. Dr. Martincic has taught at Moraine Valley Community College, Waubonsee Community College, Aurora University and Governors State University.
Dr. Martincic has been teaching trumpet for over 20+ years and has also taught private lessons, given lectures-recitals and masterclasses. Among the topics of these are: Trumpet Mouthpieces: What Are They About?, Organum to Power Chords: Similarities of Medieval Harmony and 20th Century Heavy Metal Rock and Haydn Trumpet Concerto: How Old meets New.
He has also been an active member for over 25+ years of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), where he has 40+ CD, DVD, book, and music reviews published since 2001. Dr. Martincic has been an Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District I, III, VII & IX trumpet judge for both Jr. and Sr. divisions for the for the last 10 years.
He has received invitations to audition for many symphony orchestras and opera houses among them are: Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, St. Louis Symphony Orchestras and the Des Moines and Chicago Lyric Operas. He also received invitations to audition for the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" (Washington, D.C.) and The United States Navy Ceremonial/Concert Band Assignment - The White House (Washington D.C.).
Dr. Martincic has studied classical and jazz music under many fine trumpeters including: Niel Dunlap, Nick Drozdoff, Bill Adam, Ron Modell to mention a few.
Dr. Martincic’s performance interests are wide in scope, including: classical, jazz, R&B and contemporary music. He has shared the stage with artists including: classical guitarist, Sharon Isbin; blues artists, Buddy Guy; Eddie King; trumpeters, Rob Parton, Nick Drozdoff, Marvin Stamm, Mike Vax, “Doc” Severinsen, and Jon Faddis; jazz artists, Harry Connick, Jr., Paquito D’Rivera and Mike Methany among others.
He has performed with Chicago ensembles such as: Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra, Rob Parton's Jazz Tech Big Band, The Chicago Grandstand Big Band, Royal Trumpet Works, Prairie Brass Band and Illinois Brass Band. Dr. Martincic has 30+ CDs to his credit as a recording artist for Lion’s Den Studio and appears on three live CD recordings with Jim Gutter’s Big Band and many others as well.
Dr. Martincic been pursuing his current on-going project No Accompaniment Required has been designed for the promotion and expansion of unaccompanied literature. The project is currently in its second generation exploring other unaccompanied options. Another project to extend trumpet literature and performance is The Basement Studio Sessions recording project. Dr. Martincic which has recorded to date, 30 etude books featuring a variety of traditional and modern etudes (approximately 800+ etudes) from the trumpet literature and growing.
